Following annual meeting, SDF stresses further work to liberate occupied territories

The Syrian Democratic Forces put the liberation of the occupied areas from Turkey at the forefront of their goals for the next year, and called on the international community for more support to ensure sustainable stability in Syria, rejected the hostile positions of the Damascus government, calling on Russia to play a role in opening the prospects for a political solution in Syria.

The annual meeting of the councils of the Syrian Democratic Forces, which started this morning, concluded with the participation of the leaders of the forces and military councils in the regions of north and east Syria, in addition to a delegation from the Global Coalition, and officials of the AANES, delegations from the Syrian Democratic Council, the Future Syria Party, Kurdistan National Congress, party officials from the regions of northern and eastern Syria, dignitaries of Kurdish and Arab clans, the Self-Defense Duty Forces, Kongra Star, and nearly 500 delegates.

After the words, the attendees continued the activities of the annual meeting closed to the media, and then the final statement was read by the SDF's new spokesman, Aram Hanna.

Today, Sunday, August 1, 2021, the military councils of the SDF held their annual meeting in the presence of the leaders and delegation of all the councils and the military forces, and their institutions, and with the participation of the leadership of the GC forces to combat ISIS.

The Occupied Territories and the Hostile Attitudes of the Damascus Government

The meeting discussed, "the situation of the occupied areas by Turkey, and the hostile stances of the Syrian regime towards the northeast, and it was emphasized that the terrorist organization ISIS is still top dangers threatening NES and the free world, and the need to continue combating the terrorist organization." And eradicate the organization’s cells by all legitimate means, in cooperation with the GC to combat ISIS.”

Continuing the fight against ISIS

The statement continued, "The attendees stressed the need to remove the factors that feed ISIS in order to achieve a sustainable victory over the terrorist organization, through political and economic support for the AANES, in addition to military support, and boosting the administration to enhance security and stability and ensuring a better future for the people of the region.

The statement called on the international community to assume its legal and moral obligations towards the detention centers, which houses 11,000 ISIS elements, in addition to about 64,000 members of their families in the Al-Hol and Roj camps.

A mechanism to ensure the safe return of the IDPs

The statement urged the international community and the international forces active in the region to put pressure on Turkey to stop its aggression against the regions of north and east Syria, put an end to the war crimes of the Turkish army and armed groups affiliated with the Turkish state, and put in place a mechanism to ensure the safe return of the IDPs.

The statement welcomed "the US administration's decision to add the "Ahrar al-Sharqiya" faction to the list of sanctions issued by the US Treasury Department, calling "for the need to investigate the crimes committed by the partners of that faction, and to prosecute those involved in crimes against humanity in the occupied Syrian areas. The pledge to work for the liberation the occupied territories and to ensure a decent and free life for the residents of those areas.

The hostile policies and practices of the Syrian regime

The statement indicated that the meeting "discussed the hostile policies and practices carried out by the Syrian regime against NES, stressing that these policies do not help build a solution. The meeting called on the regime to contribute to finding a permanent solution to the Syrian crisis and to negotiate with the Autonomous Administration on the principle of recognition the administration and accept the specificity of the Syrian Democratic Forces, and recognition of the legitimate rights of the Kurdish and Syriac Assyrian people and other components within the framework of a united democratic Syria.

The statement stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination with the Russian armed forces in order to achieve de-escalation on the northern border, and play a stronger role in order to open the door to lasting political solutions for Democratic Syria, in order to strengthen defense capabilities.

It was stressed the need to adhere to the internal system of the Syrian Democratic Forces, which is compatible with all international treaties, as a guarantee in making institutional work a mainstay within the Syrian Democratic Forces.

At the conclusion of the statement, the military councils of the Syrian Democratic Forces thanked all the participants in the annual meeting and representatives of the Syrian Democratic Council and the Autonomous Administration in north and east Syria, the political parties and democratic institutions, and the leadership of the international coalition, in the hope of achieving security and stability for our people, our country and the whole world.
