Dozens of members and administrators of the political parties of Afrin canton gathered in Al-Ahdath district in Shahba canton to denounce the crimes of Turkish occupation and mercenaries against the occupied Afrin people.

During the gathering, the statement was delivered by the Coordination of Political Parties in this regard:

"At a time when the focus was on starting the political process and dialogue among Syrians. We believe that the government of the Turkish occupation and its supporting States, such as Qatar and Kuwait, are carrying out extensive demographic changes, confiscating the lands and property of the Afrin people, building settlements and mosques in the villages of our Yazidi people, continuing abduction, torture and all kinds of violations against the remaining indigenous peoples of Afrin, in particular the practices to which women are subjected, on the basis of flimsy arguments, in violation of all international norms, treaties and conventions relating to human rights and and the sanctity of neighboring countries.

The political parties' statement accused the Damascus Government of participating in and approving Turkish occupation practices in changing the demographics of the region with a view to "destabilizing the situation in Syria.

In its statement, the Political Parties Coordination called on the international community, humanitarian and human rights organizations and the United Nations to take swift action to stop those projects aimed at dividing Syria and forcing all parties to begin implementing the United Nations resolution (2,254) because it represents the will of Syrians to determine their own destiny and to emerge from the fragmentation and division.

It also pledged to "stand together to confront the Turkish occupation state in its occupation and partition project and to defend the unity and integrity of the Syrian territory, people and liberation of Afrin and all occupied areas."
