Intellectuals: What Turkey did in Afrin, Serêkaniyê is repeated in Başûr Kurdistan

The Turkish state continues its attempts to occupy Başûr Kurdistan and expand its influence in the region.

The intellectuals of Al-Jazira Region believe that the attacks on the legitimate defense zones aim at occupying an area extending from Afrin to Kirkuk and achieving the Millî Pact, criticizing the Kurdistan Regional Government's silence regarding Turkey's policies in the region.

They consider the silence of the Iraqi and Kurdistan Region governments to be complicity and approval of the Turkish occupation.

Husseina Ahmed, Member of the Intellectuals' Union of Al-Jazira Region said: "The policies being adopted in Başûr Kurdistan are continuity of what Kurds have been subjected to throughout history."

Husseina Ahmed explained that the Turkish occupation is repeating the scenario of Afrin and Serêkaniyê in Başûr Kurdistan, and said: "Turkey's mercenaries who turned Afrin upside down are present in Başûr with the Kurdistan Regional Government and Iraq's consent."

Concerning PDK’s preventing human shields' activities condemning the Turkish occupation's attacks on Başûr Kurdistan on the 30^th of last May, Husseina said, "When people unite and organize events to show their position on anything, no party or government has the right to prevent it."

Reviving the Millî Pact

Husseina pointed out that Turkey aims to create strife among Kurds themselves, stressing that striking any gains of Kurds would be in the service of the enemy.

In his turn, Member of the Intellectuals' Union in Al-Jazira Region, Mannan Jaafar, confirmed that the events that occurred and are taking place in Başûr Kurdistan are denounced, and said: "Turkey plunders the wealth of every region it occupies, and it has proven this fact throughout its history."

Jaafar noted that the new projects of the Turkish occupation are the occupation of an area extending from Afrin to Kirkuk, and the revival of the Millî Pact, and that all Erdogan's statements and violations in Kurdistan prove that.

Jaafar added, "Turkey's attacks on Başûr Kurdistan have been repeated dozens of times, but in the last time it used internationally prohibited weapons."

Silence is evidence of cooperation

Jaafar pointed out the political parties' silence in Başûr Kurdistan regarding the attacks, saying: "The silence in world politics is evidence of cooperation, and the silence of some Kurdish parties in Başûr Kurdistan indicates their agreement of the attacks."

He continued, "The position of these parties will be written down in history," noting, "We confirm that we will advocate and support our people in Başûr Kurdistan."

Jaafar stressed the need to raise the pace of the struggle against the Turkish attacks and occupations and against cutting down the trees of Kurdistan for sale in Turkey, calling on the government of Başûr Kurdistan to break its silence, take a strict and serious stance towards Turkish practices, and to stay away from narrow personal interests.
