On cutting down trees in Başûr Kurdistan, the President of the Iraqi Republic, Barham Salih, published a tweet on his account on the social networking site Twitter, in which he indicated that cutting down trees is an environmental crime that must not be condoned.

The text of the tweet included, "Encroaching on sovereignty, violence and the displacement of civilians from their homes, as well as cutting down forests' trees in Herur, Bativa and other border areas in the Kurdistan Region are inhuman practices and an environmental crime that must not be overlooked."
