In a joint statement published yesterday, Baghdad and Hewlêr called on the Turkish Occupation to stop logging natural forests in the Bahdinan areas of Kurdistan and to move them into its territory for trade.

According to Roj News, the statement, signed by Federal Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Karim Al Khafaji and Minister of Agriculture of Kurdistan Regional Government Bikh Rad Talabani, read as follows: "For some time now, we have been following news in the media on the subject of a group of Turkish companies with the assistance of the Turkish forces cutting down natural forest trees in the Bahdinan areas of the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The Ministers denounced "these uncivilized acts," considering them to be "hostile acts against nature, the Iraqi environment and the environment of the Kurdistan region, but a hostile act against humanity and the whole world because the environment has no boundaries."

He called on the Federal and Territorial Governments to take "prompt and appropriate action to stop these acts."

They called on the United Nations and international organizations to "cooperate with us in finding solutions to these irresponsible acts."
