The Euphrates River, which passes through large areas of Syrian lands, is the artery on which the Syrian citizen depends on income. The low level of the river’s water has caused great damage to agricultural lands and cut off electricity, which negatively affected the industrial sector, and thus the livelihood of the people of Syria and the regions of North and East Syria in particular.

Regarding this, the deputy co-chair of the Legislative Council in Manbij, Jumah Haider, said in an interview with ANHA, "the Euphrates River has a special importance and character and influences the Syrian economy directly in all respects."

"Recently, the Turkish state has carried out a kind of special war, which is to reduce the water resources allocated to the Syrian and Iraqi states, so that the two countries' share was according to the agreement signed between the three countries by pumping 500 cubic meters of water per second, but this has been reduced," he said. The quantity reached 200 cubic meters per second, and in recent days the water supply decreased to 185 cubic meters per second. "

Haidar added, "This led to power cuts in North and East Syria and part of the territories controlled by the Syrian regime, and this negatively affects the life of the citizen, as it is known that electricity is the backbone of life at this time."

He stressed that "electricity cuts affect the industrial sector, as industrial establishments are totally dependent on electricity at this time, and dams ceasing to produce electricity negatively affects industrial workshops and factories in the regions of North and East Syria, which secure the livelihood of thousands of people."

Jumaa Haider pointed out that large areas of agricultural land depend on the water of the Euphrates River, and when the water supply is little, this will lead to a decrease in the level of the lakes that irrigate these lands, and thus large areas of land will be out of service, i.e. it cannot be irrigated, invested and cultivated.

He stressed that Turkey is trying to find new ways and means to pressure the people in the regions of North and East Syria through some types of special wars, the most important of which is reducing the water flow to this region.

The deputy co-chair of the Legislative Council in Manbij concluded his speech by saying: "We call on international organizations, human rights bodies and the guarantor and sponsor states of the peace process in Syria, to pressure Turkey to end this kind of special war and to secure free and independent life for the people in the regions of North and East Syria."
