Yesterday, the Syrian Democratic Forces launched a large-scale military and security operation in the northern and northeastern countryside of the city of Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria, and said through a press statement on their official sites that their operations, which were launched in Wadi Al-Ajeej, will continue for four continuous days, to pursue the cells in the targeted area.

With the entry of the SDF operations, with this morning, its second day, which started on several axes in the desert area in Wadi Al-Ajeej, and along the Syrian-Iraqi borders, the director of the Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Farhad Shami, confirmed that the operation continues, and the targeted area is witnessing a security operation with the participation of the international coalition.

The operations to combat ISIS cells and others in the regions of northern and eastern Syria did not stop, after the SDF announced on March 23, 2019 to end ISIS geographically, after the liberation of its last stronghold, Al-Baghouz.

"This area, as you know, is a desert region, adjacent to the Iraqi border, and has witnessed remarkable movements of cells recently, and cells of various connections, especially ISIS, are using them to smuggle mercenaries into Syrian territory, as well as weapons to target the region," Shami said in a phone call to ANHA agency.

He added, "The recent weather conditions in the region, helped the cells recently to move and hide from the eyes of our patrols and our military points deployed in that area, so this process was necessary to end those cells and limit those terrorist acts."

This security operation coincides with a security operation launched by the Iraqi forces to pursue ISIS cells in the Nineveh desert and on the border strip between Syria and Iraq, and Shami said, "The operation coincided with the Iraqi forces' ones, and the goal is common, which is to combat the cells, but the two operations are not related to each other."

Shami pointed out about the course of the security operation that their fighters managed to finish some of the targets in the area, and failed some of the plans."

The operation of the Syrian Democratic Forces in Wadi al-Ajeej in the northern and northeastern sides of the city of Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria is the second in less than a month, after it had launched the first on the 14th of last April, and after a series of large-scale security operations. The most important of which is the campaign to deter terrorism on the 6th of June of last year.

At the time, the Syrian Democratic Forces announced, through an official statement, that their forces had arrested 110 mercenaries belonging to ISIS mercenary cells, and combed more than 175 square kilometers along the border with a width of 60 kilometers, which included 150 villages and farms, and raided 56 targets that the cells were taking as points to target the area. , In its first phase, and that it arrested 31 mercenaries during its second phase.
