PDPKS, PYDKS call on international community to stop Turkey from thirsting Syrians

The Kurdish Democratic Progressive Party in Syria (PDPKS) and the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party (PYDKS) described the Turkish occupation's use of water in the conflict as “a crime described in all humanitarian, moral and legal meanings.” They called on the international community, led by Russia and America, to put pressure on Turkey to respect the Syrians' rights in the areas occupied by it and stop thirsting Syrians.

This came through a joint statement issued by the Kurdish Democratic Progressive Party in Syria and the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party, denouncing the Turkish occupation's cutting off the Euphrates water from Syria, and they said:

"Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, Turkey has been interfering in the internal affairs of Syrians under the pretext of protecting its national security. Under this excuse, it has occupied vast areas of Syria, and has committed extremely harsh practices and policies in these areas. In addition to that, The Turkish regime has resorted to launching a water war against Syria.

For some time, it continues to withhold more than half of Syria's share of the Euphrates, which is one of the main sources of drinking water in the country, not to mention the main source of electric power generation and agricultural production.

We in the Unity and Progressive Parties appeal to the international community to prevent Turkey from practicing such policies and put an end to these horrific violations occurring against the Syrian people. At the same time, we renew our call to both the Russian Federation and the United States of America to put pressure on Turkey to respect the rights of Syrians in the areas occupied by it, and stop blocking water from Syrians, especially with the outbreak of the Corona epidemic and the summer coming on."
