​​​​​​​Bar Association describes Kobane's trial as farce, calls to stop it

The Lawyers Union in al-Jazira region called on international and human rights organizations to put pressure on the Turkish government regarding the indictment of charges against Kobane, which it described as "farce," and said: "It is the political extermination of the Democratic People's Party (HDP)."

The trial of 108 HDP members, including the two former Co-chairs of the HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş and Vigan Yuksekdag, began on April 26, and will last for 40 days, under accusation of participating in demonstrations of solidarity with Kobane city during ISIS mercenaries' attacks on the city in 2014.

In this regard, the Lawyers Union in al-Jazira region issued a statement to the public opinion, calling on global and human rights organizations to pressure Turkey and remove it from the Council of Europe.

The text of the statement read: "During ISIS' attack and siege of Kobane city in 2014, the general alarm was declared, and the Kurds responded to this alarm."

The statement added, "In light of the acts of violence committed by the security forces against the protesters, Demirtaş made a statement calling for the Turkish government to stop practicing violence against the protesters."

The statement noted that seven years after, on April 26 this year, the ruling party in Turkey issued a charge sheet of 3,500 pages against / 108 / persons, including 27 commanders of the HDP, including the two former co-chairs of the party.

The statement emphasized that the purpose of this accusation is to remove the HDP from political life in Turkey.

The statement called on all international human rights organizations to put pressure on the Turkish government to stop the farce.
