Nassra Khalil: Killer at large in Turkey; defender of people's freedom behind the bars

The co-chair of Social Justice Council in the Euphrates region said that "If there had been justice in Turkey, we would not have seen these unfair trials against the members of the HDP today because they had legitimately entered Kobani, and the Turkish courts give a bad impression of the law, especially in international silence."

For more than 10 days, the trial of 108 members of the People's Democratic Party HDP on charges of solidarity with the city of Kobani as it was attacked by ISIS/Daesh mercenaries in late 2014 continues, and defense lawyers withdrew from last Monday's hearing: "We do not want to be partners in this crime committed by the Turkish judiciary against members of the party.

'There is no provision in the law prohibiting humanitarian support to distressed.'

The co-chair of the Social Justice Council of the Euphrates region, Nassra Khalil, talked to ANHA agency: "Kobani city's people appealed to the entire world to support them during the 2014 ISIS/Daesh mercenary attack on Kobani. The members of the People's Democratic Party appealed and held solidarity marches. They then supported the people by providing supplies and all what had been done were humanitarian cases. They stood with the people of the city humanly. There is no provision in the law to prevent humanitarian support for the bereaved."

Nassra Khalil added: "The murderer is on the loose in Turkey and the defender of the freedom of the people behind the bars. It is the justice exercised by the Turkish Occupying State in its trials, rewarding the criminal and punishing the innocent. If there had been justice in Turkey, we would not be seeing these unfair trials today because they entered Kobani in legitimate ways.

'Turkey gives a bad impression of the law in international silence.'

Nassra Khalil noted that "six years after the liberation of the city of Kobani, Turkish courts are punishing solidarity with the city, which is a matter of concern, because Turkey gives a bad impression of the law, especially in international silence, and as a member of the Human Rights Council (United Nations), as well as a signatory of agreements with the European Union on respect for human rights."

Adding "This is not the first time that Turkish courts have broken the law. Since their establishment, they have been breaking the law by banishing people, putting their opponents in prison, withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention and trying "Çîçek Kobanê", all these signs that no voice in Turkey is above the voice of the Turkish judiciary, which issues laws as the security agencies wish."

In conclusion, Nassra Khalil called on jurists to "stand in solidarity with Selahattin Demirtaş and his comrades, by communicating their voice to all international organizations," and appealed to "the people in Kobani and all Kurdish cities to come down in solidarity with the members of the People's Democratic Party, because they have sacrificed their freedom for the people of Kobani."
