In video ... "The Great Euphrates" takes its last breath on Syrian soil

On Friday, our agency's camera monitored the course of the Euphrates River in one of the areas near the Tishreen Dam "Rojava", in which the water level has decreased to a unprecedented level as a result of 3 months of the Turkish state's lowering of the water level flowing into the Syrian lands.

Our reporter took videos from the air which show course of the Euphrates River in a valley with a width of 1 km, in which the water of the river receded, only tens of meters.

The Turkish state reduced the water level of the Euphrates River flowing into the Syrian territories, by a rate ranging between 60 to 70% since January of this year, of the total agreed amount, in violation of the 1987 agreement signed between Ankara, Damascus and Baghdad.

Syria’s share is 500 cubic meters of water per second, while Iraq gets 60% of that amount, and this is what Turkey has been fighting for years in a war with water weapons that Ankara is waging against the regions of North and East Syria, according to observers.

The decline threatens the lives of millions of people and affects the agricultural and industrial sectors

The decline in water supplies threatens agricultural and industrial activities in the Euphrates Basin in Syria, as well as supplying regions such as Manbij, Kobani, Raqqa, and Deir Ezzor, as well as the city of Aleppo, with the Euphrates water as a main source of drinking water that irrigates millions in these areas.

In addition, the low level of the river impacted dams in generating electricity and feeding the regions to a large extent, and caused the death of large quantities of fish and organisms in the river.

Last Wednesday, the administration of the Tishreen Dam, "Rojava" in northeastern Syria, denied the information circulating that the Turkish state had re-pumped water from the Euphrates River at a high rate during the past few days.

Earlier, the Dams Administration in North and East Syria called on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene and "stop Turkish barbaric practices and blackmail."

The length of the Euphrates River is 2,800 km from its source in Northern Kurdistan to its mouth in the Arabian Gulf, where its length in the Syrian territories is 610 km, and dozens of cities and towns are spread over it from the city of Jarablus in the north to the city of Albu Kamal in eastern Syria.
