Sheikhs of Raqqa warn of upcoming disaster, call on international community to subject Turkey to law
The sheikhs and elders of the tribes in Raqqa have warned of the humanitarian catastrophe in the Euphrates Basin after Turkey continued to reduce the Euphrates waters to Syria, stressing that the international community should intervene immediately and subject Turkey to agreements on water sharing.
Every year, Turkey resorts to locking up Syria's full share of it according to the concluded agreements, as part of its continuous war against the Syrian people, but this time is much longer than its predecessors, foretelling the ahead humanitarian disaster on the economy of the region. The river was further exacerbated by the lack of monsoon rains that fell in the region, which also heralded a year of drought from the beginning.
The sheikhs and notables of Arab tribes from Raqqa condemned Turkey's continuation policy starving the peoples of the region in an attempt to break their will, describing it as shameful, and blaming the international community for its continued silence about Turkey's tyranny.
Wajih from the Bureij Husayn al-Barjas clan described Turkey's policy as "inhuman", and said, "War and victory are not by starving people, as this is contrary to all international and humanitarian norms and traditions."
Al-Barjas added, "Turkey's policy is not new in the region, as it follows the most horrific methods against the Syrian people to strike at the project of the democratic nation and the Autonomous Administration that fears its transfer to the Turkish interior."
In turn, the sheikh of the Sabkha clan, Muhammad Turki al-Suwaan, warned of the of the humanitarian catastrophe especially since the region relies on agriculture and livestock to secure their livelihood.
He also referred to the electricity problem that is aggravating day after day due to the stopping of the generation groups in the 3 dams located on the Euphrates River, in addition to the damages to the structure of the dams that the engineers and technicians warned against in the event that the level continues to decline furthermore.
In a related context, he emphasized that Turkey, Russia, Iran, and the Damascus government want to strike at the Autonomous Administration project, as each of them follows a different policy to achieve this, and all methods target the people in the first place.
At the end of their speech, the sheikhs and dignitaries demanded from the international community to save Syrians from disaster,and put pressure on the Turkish state to submit it to the international law, which calls for respecting the agreements concluded between countries and neutralizing the people from conflict and ambitions.
