The co-chair of the Health Authority in northern and eastern Syria, Joan Mustafa, warned at a press conference on Monday in the city of Qamishlo, of an imminent humanitarian disaster due to the outbreak of coronavirus, indicating that there is a high probability that the virus will get out of control.

However, World Health Organization has not provided any support, particularly on the issue of vaccine.

On the 11th of this month, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria imposed a total curfew across northern and eastern Syria, which came into force on April 13, as a result of the increasing number of corona infections, after it announced on April 6 curfew in the cities of "Qamishlo, Hasaka and Raqqa", and partly in the rest of the regions.

The residents brushing aside preventive measures and not complying crisis cell decisions mainly contributed to the spread of the virus, said Siham Mulla Ali, spokeswoman for the Hasaka Canton’s Health Committee.

"Nearly 150 infections every three days"

In a telephone call with our agency, Siham Mulla Ali warned that the third wave of the virus is more dangerous than the waves that preceded it, as it is rapidly spreading and affects all age groups.

"The number of coronavirus infections is approximately 150 every three days in Hasaka canton, ranging between the ages of 20 and 30," she said.

Precautionary measures

The Health Committee, in coordination with municipalities, is sterilizing the centers of institutions in the city and districts as precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus, while Siham Mulla Ali explained that health committees are also educating people through awareness brochures to prevent the virus.

At the end of the telephone call, Siham Mulla Ali called on the World Health Organization to provide the vaccine to northern and eastern Syria to prevent a humanitarian disaster, as a result of the rising number of people infected and dying across the region.
