The Damascus government closed the crossings with the Autonomous Administration OF North and East of Syria, nearly 20 days ago.

The work of the weak

Bakr Haj Issa, the co-chair of the Diplomatic Relations Office of the Democratic Union Party in the Euphrates region, said that this step "is the work of the weak who do not have solutions to the problems."

The Autonomous Administration areas and the Damascus government areas are linked by three main crossings: the “Al-Tayhah” crossing, west of Manbij, the “Al-Tabqa” crossing in the eastern countryside of Raqqa, and the “Al-Akirashi” crossing in the southern countryside of Raqqa.

Haj Issa continued, "After 10 years of displacement, looting and, nonpolitical solution to the crisis has emerged, and this indicates that the Syrian regime does not have any political solution to the crisis in the country."

He added, "The regime has used all methods of warfare with the Syrians, most notably the bombing."

He went on to say, "This was not a solution, especially in the regions of northeast Syria, where the people are managing themselves democratically."

Referring to the attempt to "provoke war between the clans in the region, by using the chiefs of clans as means, but it failed."

Hajj Issa pointed out that: "Closing the crossings is not a solution, but rather increases the severity of the crisis. Rather, the solution is to write a new constitution for the country, according to which all components live under the roof of one nation freely."

He went on to ask, "What has the regime benefited from the siege of Sheikh Maqsoud and Al-Ashrafiya ?, And what has benefited from the closure of the crossing with al-Shahba canton ?, Is this siege a solution to the crisis or is it a division of the region?"

"The government helps the occupying power besiege the people of the region."

Bakr Hajj Issa pointed out that, “As we see, the regime has relations with the Turkish occupation state that cuts off water from our regions, and the closure of the crossings came simultaneously with that, and this means that the two countries are fighting the people who are struggling to gain their freedom in the region, otherwise why do we not see a move by the regime on cutting off water in light of the existence of an agreement with the Turkish occupation state on water.

In 1987 the governments of Damascus and Ankara signed an agreement on the flow of water levels coming from Turkish lands to Syrian lands, but Turkey violated that treaty months ago and lowered the water level.

The Turkish occupation state previously lowered the water level of the Euphrates River, but this is the first time that it has lowered the water level to less than 200 cubic meters per second instead of 500 cubic meters per second.

Bakr Haj Issa, the co-chair of the diplomatic relations office of the Democratic Union Party in the Euphrates region, concluded his speech by saying: “We are witnessing the exact opposite. Today, the Syrian regime is helping the Turkish occupation state to empty the region through a policy of starvation, and not in agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces that brought security and safety. For the region, unlike other regions in the Syrian territories. "
