Leader Ocalan's Freedom Committee ends its campaign by revealing its proceeds

The LFC launched a campaign calling on the European Committee Against Torture, CPT, to carry out its duty since March 27.

This campaign consists of sending an email that was prepared by the Committee to the European Committee against Torture.

The letter includes urging the CPT to carry out its duties and visit Imrali, and work to allow his family and the Leader's lawyer, Abdullah Ocalan, to visit him.

Yesterday evening, the committee announced the end of the campaign after sending 25,821 emails to the (CPT).

At the end of its campaign, the committee hoped that the CPT would take into account the will of those joining the campaign to intensify efforts to allow lawyers and family to visit leader Ocalan, in order to reveal the leader's health status.

The committee announced this via the text of a letter our agency obtained a copy of, as follows:

To the CPT:

Since April 27, 2020, no information has been received about the status of Mr. Abdullah Ocalan, who is being held in Imrali prison in Turkey. While all information and communication channels with Mr. Ocalan were cut off, some active Turkish pages and sites on social media circulated, on March 14, 2021, that Ocalan lost his life in prison.

This news raised fears and concerns about Mr. Ocalan's life. Since then, the Turkish authorities have taken no serious steps to clarify these allegations, and have not responded to requests from the family and lawyers to visit him.

To allay concerns about Mr. Ocalan's condition, and given that the Committee Against Torture has the strength and capacity to address this problem, we urge your esteemed body to take some steps to expose Mr. Ocalan's health status by sending representatives from CPT. With Ocalan's lawyer and his family to visit Imrali prison.
