Leader Freedom Committee in North Eastern Syria has undertaken a campaign calling on the CPT of the EU to bear responsibility in reference to the tight isolation imposed on leader Abdullah Ocalan held at the Imrali Island Prison, that is sending an email prepared by the committee to the CPT calling for access to leader by his lawyers, reads as follows:

''To the Committee for the Prevention of Torture,

Since 27 April 2020, there has not been any information about the situation of the Kurdish leader Mr. Abdullah Ocalan, who has been detained in Imrali prison in Turkey. While all information and channels of communication with Mr. Ocalan have been cut off, some active Turkish pages and websites on social media circulated, on 14 March 2021, that Ocalan lost his life in prison.

The news provoked worries and concerns about the life of Mr. Ocalan. Since then, the Turkish authorities have not taken any serious steps to clarify these allegations, and have not responded to the demands of the family and lawyers to visit him.

To assuage the fears about the situation of Mr. Ocalan, and given that the CPT has the power and capacity to address this issue, we urge your respected body to take some steps to uncover the health situation of Mr. Ocalan through sending representatives from CPT along with Ocalan’s lawyers and family to visit Imrali prison.
