EU is pessimistic: No near solution to Syrian conflict

Today, the European Union voiced its pessimism regarding the solution to the Syrian crisis, considering that the Syrian conflict is still far from a solution, and confirmed that the sanctions against the Damascus government are continuing, after 10 years of the outbreak of the crisis in Syria.

The European Union emphasized that there would be no solution in the country except through the political option. It stressed that the sanctions against Damascus continue, saying, "We will renew the sanctions against the Syrian regime next May."

In a statement commemorating the Syrian crisis, the Union’s foreign and security policy representative, added that the Syrian conflict is still far from a solution. He continued, "The regime and its allies must implement the resolutions of the Security Council."

The European official called on the Damascus government to end the repression and release the detainees. It stressed that the regime’s brutal repression of the Syrian people and failure to address the root causes of the uprising has led to the escalation and internationalization of the armed conflict.

It also stressed that "accountability for all violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law is of the utmost importance as a legal condition and a central element in achieving sustainable peace and true reconciliation in Syria."

With regard to the Syrian refugee crisis, it considered that it is the largest displacement crisis in the world, as there are 5.6 million registered refugees and 6.2 million displaced inside Syria.

It is noteworthy that ten years of the Syrian war caused the displacement and displacement of millions of people, and caused massive damage to the infrastructure and drained the economy and its exhausted sectors.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the loss of 388,652 people on the Syrian lands, including 1,013 civilians, by the fire of the Turkish occupation forces, since the start of the Syrian crisis on March 15, 2011, until dawn on the 14th of March.
