On the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the March 12th Uprising, the Executive Council of al-Jazira region issued a statement to the public opinion in which it said:

"The seventeenth anniversary of the Qamishlo Uprising is passing, this uprising that the Kurdish people set off in the face of the dictatorial regime and its security apparatus which worked on transforming a football match between al-Jihad and al-Fatwa clubs into strife and fighting between the masses of the two teams, and igniting a strife among the components of the region. This security apparatus and shabiha used live bullets against defenseless Kurdish youth, which led to the martyrdom and injury of dozens of them; however, the response of our people was rejection and uprising in all cities and villages of Rojava, reaching Aleppo and Damascus, where they united in the spirit of the uprising against the policies of the chauvinist Baathist regime and rejection of sedition, clinging to the spirit of brotherhood among the components of the region.

The March 12th Uprising broke the barrier of fear among our people who have been struggled since decades to obtain their rights, and the spirit of the Qamishlo Uprising was the spark of the July 19th Revolution that resulted in the establishment of the Democratic Autonomous Administration, representing the ambition and will of all the components of the Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, Armenians and other components through their solidarity and adherence to the spirit peoples' fraternity and co-existence, and they were able to protect their regions and defend their gains against all the attempts and conspiracies that our people and their democratic project were exposed to, in light of the continuation of the regime that adheres to its authoritarian, chauvinistic mentality, and its attempts to create discord among the components of the region, while the regime still adheres to its chauvinistic authoritarian mentality and attempts to create strife, incite clans, assassinations, and create crises to strike this state of unity and the cohesion among the people of the region with all their components and sects, this mentality that brought Syria and the Syrian people to destruction and displacement.

The revival and adherence to the spirit of the Qamishlo Uprising that united the Kurdish people in the face of injustice and denial is a necessary need at this stage to unify the Kurdish ranks to protect the gains of our people which were achieved with the blood of our martyrs, and to end the occupation of our regions in Afrin, Girê Spî and Serêkaniyê.

We, in the Democratic Autonomous Administration in al-Jazira region, commemorate the martyrs of the March 12th Uprising, and all the martyrs of our revolution, and we bow to their greatness. We also affirm that the martyrs of March 12th will remain the values of our revolution, the pride of our people and the light that guides us to reach freedom and build a decentralized democratic Syria.

We condemn the practices of the Syrian regime, and we affirm at the same time the necessity of the Syrian-Syrian dialogue to end the Syrian crisis in order to fulfill the ambitions and aspirations of our people and the hopes of our martyrs."
