Head of the Peasant Societies in Deir Ezzor indicated that lowering the water level of the Euphrates River intentionally by Turkey amounts to a crime against the people of the region, that causes huge damages to the agrarian sector.

The Turkish State goes on to use water of the Euphrates as a weapon against the North Eastern Syrians, that entails environmental catastrophes and poses threats  to agriculture as a whole in a gross violation to the international law and all signed agreements between Syria and the Turkey in 1987 that proscribe pumping of 500 cubic ML per second, that is estimated at now as just 200 ones.

Khaleel Mohamed, head of the Peasant Societies in Deir Ezzor indicated that the hostile Turkish actions pose dangers to agriculture and economy both, '' the Euphrates is the main source of water for both people and agriculture in the region''.   

''this intent action of water deprivation is a breach to the international law that amounts to war crimes and a gross violation to the rights of the North Eastern Syria people to the drinkable water'', he said.

80% of the Deir Ezzor people depend of agriculture as a main source of living, according to statistics produced by head of the Peasant Societies in Deri Ezzor.

On the dangers entailed Mohamed said '' this low level would lead to grave losses in the economy for people here depend on the river in watering their lands''. Prior to this the region suffers an economic crisis due to the Syrian Pound's devaluation to the U.S. $, denouncing the hostile Turkish actions and crimes against the people in North Eastern Syria, calling on all concerned human bodies and associations to intervene and put an end to the Turkish practices against the Syrian territories and using water as a weapon against the Syrian people.
