The Education Authority in Afrin region issued a statement on the International Mother Language Day, which was read in the Kurdish language by Zainab Abdo, member of the Education Authority.

Dozens of members of the Education Authority in Afrin region gathered in Ahras district in al-Shahba canton, holding banners that read: “From the language the renewal revolution begins. With our knowledge and our pen, we build the future. We want to live a decent life on our land and in our language, without the mother tongue it will not become Man has a right. "

At the outset, the statement referred to the importance of language in human life as a means of communication between societies, indicating that on 21st of February, peoples demanded their right to speak their mother tongue.

The statement noted the date of this day, which was announced on November 17, 1999, "with giving everyone the right to speak their mother tongue."

The statement pointed out to peoples who do not speak their mother tongue, saying: “There are peoples under occupation conditions who cannot speak their mother tongue and practice their culture, such as the Kurdish people who have been deprived over the years of practicing their language, and their language has even been subjected to melting.”

The statement appealed to all human rights organizations to make February 21 the Day of Mother and Peace for all persecuted peoples.

The celebration of the International Mother Language Day was announced at the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November of 1999, while this day is celebrated annually to promote multilingualism and protect the mother tongue of the world.
