The Turkish occupation and its mercenaries seek to expand its occupation by launching new attacks on the regions of northeastern Syria, including the city of Dêrik, and the Şengal district in Southern Kurdistan (north of Iraq).

In this context, ANHA conducted a meeting with the Kurdish chieftains in Qamishlo canton about the recent Turkish threats following the visit of Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and his meeting with officials in the Iraqi governments and the region on the 18th of last January.

The General Supervisor of the Clans and Notables Council in Qamishlo canton, and the notable of the Kurdish Tayy clan, Hawass Jadei, denounced the Turkish threats on the regions of NE Syria, in particular its recent threats on the Dêrik sub-district and the Şengal district.

“The threats of the Ottoman state are not new, and since the start of the Rojava Revolution, Turkey has threatened and occupied Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî, and committed the most heinous crimes in these areas,” said Jadai.

He condemned the international silence about Turkey’s crimes against civilians in the occupied areas and said: “The world turns blind eye to the crimes of the Turkish occupation in Afrin and Turkish threats against the security peace of the components of the region.

“Turkey’s threats, cooperated with central Iraqi government and Iran, against Şengal are extremely dangerous to separate Başur Kurdistan from Rojava, to open a commercial crossing between Baghdad and Ankara, tighten the screws on the KRG economically, and to close the Ibrahim Khalil border crossing."

KRG should support Rojava

He called on the KRG to support the NE Syria and said: "The people in NE Syria have stood in the way of Turkish plans, and the KRG must support Rojava and fulfill its national and humanitarian duty to face the Turkish occupation's plans."

He pointed to the dangers of the Turkish occupation and said: "If the KRG (Başur) does not cut relations with Turkey, its fate will be terrible, because Turkey does not target a Kurdish clan or party, but rather aims to eliminate the Kurdish people, displace them and change the demography of Kurdistan."

“The reality of the Turkish occupation vis-à-vis the Kurdish people has become known, and the PDK has no right to insist on his relations with the occupying Turkish state that harms the Kurdish cause, so we ask the KRG not to be drawn into the trap of the occupiers,” he added.

Turkey is only after its interests

In turn, the General Coordinator of the Council of Clans and Notables in the Eastern Region, and the Head of the Harouni clan, Osman Ibrahim, said: “Turkey does not support anyone but for its interests, as it fights all Kurdish parties."

He added, "We value the role of the people and they must be prepared against the Turkish threats because they want to invade our regions and eliminate all components, calling on the KRG to be vigilant of Erdogan's plots."

Ibrahim called on the PDK to unify ranks, and said: "This is sensitive stage and requires unity for the success of the Kurdish-Kurdish dialogue, that will be sufficient to stop threats on the region."

The Syrian government must do its duty to address the Turkish threats

Ibrahim also called on the Syrian government to do its duty in the face of the Turkish threats and said: "Its duty to defend the peoples of the region and assume its responsibility towards the Turkish threats and the Syrian lands under Turkey's occupation."
