SOHR: Damascus government hides real numbers of people infected with Corona

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the death toll due to the Corona virus has increased in the areas of the Damascus government, amid the latter’s blackout, as more than 22,300 people were infected and at least 1,175 others died during the past days.

The Syrian Observatory quoted medical sources, which it described as reliable, from within the regions of the Damascus government, confirming that more than 22,300 new cases of the new Corona virus were recorded during the past days, amid recording at least 1,175 new deaths from the virus in the same period.

According to the Syrian Observatory, the Damascus government continues to hide the real numbers by announcing dozens of infections and deaths on a daily basis only, and huge number of mortalities are recorded as having occurred with pneumonia.

According to the latest statistics of the Syrian Observatory, the number of people infected with Coronavirus in the areas of the Damascus government amounted to about 181,300 thousand confirmed infections, more than 72,000 recovered, while 10,685 people died.

According to official statistics published by SANA, quoting the Ministry of Health in the Damascus government, the number of recorded infections reached as of the evening of January 17, 2021, 13,036 of which 6,548 cases were cured and 832 died.
