Photos obtained from the city of Afrin show that Turkish Occupation Forces are deforming all milestones at the archaeological site of the Nebi Huri Castle, in the Shera District in the occupied Afrin Canton, known in antiquity as Cyrrus or the city of Cyrus, that dates back to 312 B.C.

The archaeological site of Nebi Huri was vandalized many times as the Afrin Canton was occupied in 2018, such as extreme sabotage diggings by heavy machinery, as well as defacement and other breaches with the aim of stealing all relics.

In this relation, Esmahan Ahmed, co-chair of the Directorate Antiquities of the Afrin Canon, condemned all practises by the Turkish Occupation Forces and the affiliated mercenaries against the historical and archaeological sites in Afrin, that bear witness to the civilization made by people in the region, holding the international community and all associations and societies that advocate for the protection of antiques the responsibility of all violations and breaches against the historical sites in Afrin at the hands of the Turkish Occupation Forces and the affiliated mercenaries.

Esmahan confirmed that silence preserved by the international community in respect to the breaches against the historical sites in Afrin give substance to partnership by the international community with Turkish Forces in the destroying and looting the cultural milestones in the region.

Esmahan added that deformation to ancient Cyrrus known as Nebi Huri and mutating the site into a mosque, comes in bids exerted by Turkish Occupation Army to erase and eradicate the culture, history and identity prevalent the region,  noting that the mosaic tablet in the same site was stolen and sold in the black market in Turkey.

Esmahan said that 26 historical sites were vandalized in Afrin, at the hands of Turkish Occupation Forces and the affiliated mercenaries just in 2020.

Co-chair of the Directorate of Antiquities in Afrin called on the international community to send in a committee to document all violations by the Turkish Occupation Forces with the participation of armed terrorist factions against historical sites in Afrin and to indict Turkey for the crimes committed there.
