AL-HASAKAH, BASIL RASHID

After the Turkish attack on NE, Syria on October 9, 2019, and its occupation of the cities of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi / Tal Abyad, and the control of the Alouk station, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries offer to cut off water from the city of al-Hasakah from time to time.

Alouk water station is of strategic importance for the city of al-Hasakah, Tal Tamr district, and the southern regions of al-Hasakah, such as al-Hol, Arisha, al-Shaddadi and Markada, in addition to the camps within the region, such as al-Areesheh, al-Hol, WashoKani and Serêkaniyê refugee camps, with a population of more than one million.

The Water Directorate in al-Hasakah canton has held, and is still holding, meetings with the International Red Cross, UNICEF and the United Nations to intervene and force the Turkish occupation to restart the stalled station, because cutting off water will cause a humanitarian disaster in light of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic in the region.

′ Amidst the silence of the international community, there is no powder to restart Alouk station

The co-chair of the Water Directorate in al-Hasakah canton, Nidal Mahmoud, indicated to ANHA agency that despite the long period of water cuts in the city and its countryside, international silence remains into effect.

After occupying Alouk station by Turkey, the Russian "guarantor" intervened in an attempt to prevent the water supply from the city of al-Hasakah and its countryside, in light of the deliberate expulsion of workers from the station by the occupier and its mercenaries to stop it from work from time to time.

Cutting water is a biological genocide'

Mahmoud indicated during his speech that the Turkish occupation continued to cut off the water, which is the backbone of combating the Corona pandemic, "would cause a humanitarian catastrophe."

Mahmoud continued, saying: "Cutting off water in light of Corona is a biological genocide against the people of the region, despite the presence of the Russian guarantor in the region, which raises many questions from public opinion."

AA strives to find emergency solutions ′

As a result of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries cutting off the water of the Alouk station from the city, the Water Directorate in al-Hasakah canton sought to find alternative solutions to the station, and found its goal in al-Hama station, west of al-Hasakah, to end the suffering of the people from the water crisis, which was a first-aid and temporary solution for a period of three months.

Mahmoud added: "Despite the international silence and the silence of the Russian guarantor, the Autonomous Administration did not stand idly by, but rather sought with all its efforts to secure resources, even if temporary, to continue life."

He added, wondering: "Where is the Russian guarantor of water cuts for more than 20 days, unfortunately there is no initiative from it."
