Heidi de Paolo, CEO of Child Focus, for support and prevention of missing, abducted and sexually exploited children, spoke to our agency on the sidelines of her visit to the regions of northern and eastern Syria, accompanied by a Belgian government delegation, which arrived in the region last Friday.

The delegation, which visited the regions of northern and eastern Syria, included members of the Belgian Federal Parliament, George Dalmani, and Quinn Metsu, Director of the International Association of Victims of Terrorism, Philippe Vanstetkiste, and a member of the Association, Rudi Malek, and CEO of Child Focus, for the support and prevention of missing, kidnapped and sexually exploited children, Heidi de Paolo.

Heidi de Paolo said in her statement: "This is the third time that I visit Rojava, with the aim of seeing the reality of Belgian children who are victims of terrorism, who mainly live in Al-Hol and Roj camps. We believe all member states must be responsible to take care of their children, as well as providing resources for the Kurds to take care of their children who are also suffering from this war. "

Heidi de Paolo indicated that she had seen a real tragedy that the forcibly displaced people from their homes are living in the Autonomous Administration camps, who were displaced due to the attack of the Turkish occupation army and its so-called "Syrian National Army" mercenaries on the region.

On the 9th of October of last year, the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries launched a ground and air attack on the regions of northern and eastern Syria, which led to the displacement of more than 200,000 people, at least, from the cities of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi / Tal Abyad, according to the United Nations.

Heidi de Paolo said of these displaced persons, specifically the reality of children, "I visited a camp for the displaced, and there were many children living in pain."

She continued: "When there are wars, there are many victims, but the proportion of children is greater, because they are the most affected, so I think that the international community has a responsibility to take care of these children and help the administration, in order to help these children."

Heidi de Paolo noted that she will bring the suffering of the displaced people she visited to public opinion and the international community, and said: “Those I visited in these camps need clothes, tents, and education, and the international community must shoulder its duty in this context.”

The CEO of Child Focus for the support and prevention of missing, abducted and sexually exploited children, Heidi de Paolo, promised in the conclusion of her statement that it is the moral duty of the international community, Europe and Belgium to carry out their duties seriously, towards all victims of the war in Syria, especially the Kurdish people who helped them defeat ISIS, and children who deserve to live lives like all children.
