Al-Assad appoints Al-Miqdad, removes Al-Jaafari

Today, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appointed Faisal al-Miqdad as Minister of Foreign Affairs to replace Walid al-Muallim, who died a few days ago, while the representative of Damascus at the United Nations, Bashar al-Jaafari, was removed from his post and appointed as deputy of al-Miqdad.

According to state media - Assad issued three decrees naming Faisal al-Miqdad as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, in place of Walid al-Muallem, who died a few days ago.

In addition to appointing Bashar al-Jaafari as a deputy minister of foreign affairs and expatriates, and transferring Ambassador Bassam al-Sabbagh to the permanent delegation in New York and his accreditation as the permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations in New York.

And after the death of al-Muallem, there were reports that there was competition between Faisal al-Miqdad and Bashar al-Jaafari on the one hand, and they were close to Iran, and the assistant foreign minister, Ayman Sousan, on the other hand, who was considered close to Russia.
