The farmers of al-Jazeera region are afraid of plowing their agricultural lands on the border strip between the region and Bakur Kurdistan (northern Kurdistan) as a result of being targeted by the Turkish army, and the intensive hovering of Turkish reconnaissance aircrafts over the region despite the existence of two agreements, the first between Turkey and America and the second between Turkey and Russia.

Following the Turkish attacks on northern and eastern Syria on October 9, 2019, an agreement was concluded between Turkey and America on October 17 for a ceasefire, and on October 22, a similar agreement was held with Russia. However, Turkey has not yet committed to the ceasefire process and continues attacks on the region, amid intense flights of Turkish drones that target the populated areas from time to time.

Siyamend Ibrahim, one of the farmers of Gardim village in Tirbê Spiyê district, which is 500 meters away from the border strip, made clear: "The farmers are now preparing to start cultivation, and the farmers in the region have begun cultivating their lands, but we in the village are afraid of cultivating our lands because the Turkish occupation army's elements target us while approaching the agricultural lands."

The length of the border strip between Tirbê Spiyê and Bakur Kurdistan is about 70 km, all of which are agricultural lands. However, the Turkish occupation army periodically targets farmers, as many of them left their lands as wilderness and others cannot cultivate it.
