The condolence telegram issued by the General Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) included:

"The Kurdish people lost one of their righteous sons who defended the just Kurdish cause, the democratic rights of the Kurdish people and their sanctities, and a prominent figure in Kurdish politics. He is Najmuddin Kareem, the diligent doctor and the Peshmerga who defended his people with weapons when it required, and the governor of Kirkuk in the darkest circumstances, intensification of the conflict and ambitions around it, until he was forced to leave it as a result of wrong policies and mismanagement. He passed away from the Kurdistan he loved and defended, and he had heartbreak to return to it.

We in the Democratic Union Party found in the deceased a true ally of our people in Rojava by standing beside our struggle, and as we express our deep sorrow for the loss of this patriotic figure, we  extend our sincere condolences to the Kurdish people and the family of Najmuddin Kareem and wish them patience and solace, and we pledge our deceased to adhere to the values which he fought for and defended until they are achieved."
