Death of Baba Sheikh is great loss for our Yazidi community

The Council of Democratic Autonomous Administration in Şengal issued today a statement to the public opinion about the death of Sheikh Khartu Hajji Ismail, the Head of the Spiritual Council of the Yazidi religion, and the supreme reference for the religion in the world.

The text of the statement included:

"With sorrow, we have received the news of the departure of the spiritual father of our people, Baba Sheikh, and we have been agonized and grieved like the rest of our Yazidi people and our friends about the loss of this national character. We in the Democratic Autonomous Administration Council in Şengal offer condolences to our people and our friends, and we wish patience and solace to his generous family, as well as the Yazidi people in Şengal and all over the world. It is a great loss for our Yazidi community because he was a Sheikh of a moral and spiritual personality, so the news of his departure caused a great shock to every Yazidi household.

Baba Sheikh, through his personality and his compassionate and humble attitude, embraced all components of society without discrimination, and he had a position in spreading peace and building relationships, so he had a respectable and valuable position in our society.

 He worked hard and energetically to unite our people and spread agreement among them, and with his tenderness, sacrifices and broad heart, he became a center of pride and reliability.

Baba Sheikh has rendered great services as a religious figure until the day of his death in performing his duty as a religious man and father of the Yazidi sect and belief. We will not forget his effort, and he will always be in our memory, a benchmark for us and an example for us in order to protect our religious standards and beliefs.

Baba Sheikh made great efforts in the face of all the pain, suffering, disasters and calamities that befell our society, and he was very interested in society, mourning  for its sadness and rejoicing for its joy, supporting it in the days of trouble and prosperity. He had an attitude and principle towards it, and this is why he became the identity and model of society."
