More than 33 detainees in southern Kurdistan against backdrop of civil protests

The authorities of the southern Kurdistan Region have arrested more than 33 people, including activists, journalists and teachers against the background of protests calling for the payment of salaries and improvement of living conditions, and others calling for the Turkish occupation leaving Kurdistan.

Scattered areas in southern Kurdistan Region, especially in the cities of Sulaymaniyah governorate witnessed demonstrations and protests demanding the payment of salaries and improvement of the living and service situation, and others against the Turkish occupation and its continuous attacks on separate areas of the Region.

Protesters were subjected to harassment and arrests by the Region's authorities, as Roj News confirmed that the authorities arrested more than 33 people, including activists and journalists.

Journalists from Duhok express their concern about the strangulation of freedoms and the restriction of journalistic work within the borders of their governorate, accusing the authorities of not complying with any law and even arresting them and preventing any protest within the governorate's borders.

Last Wednesday, the security forces in the city of Zakho which is adjacent to the  borders with northern Kurdistan suppressed a demonstration of drivers on the Ibrahim al-Khalil crossing with Turkey, and arrested 18 people.

On Tuesday evening, the Asayîş arrested the teacher Badal Barwari and the activist Omid Broshky during a raid on their home in Duhok.

The photojournalist Qehreman Shukry is still being held on the background of his coverage of the demonstrations that took place in Şiladizê district in the north of the province on June 10 in protest against the Turkish attacks.

The number of the arrested by the authorities in connection with the protests reached 33 people.

Musa Ghazi - Activist – Şiladizê, and he was handed over to the Turkish intelligence

In addition to the arrest of 18 people at the drivers' demonstration in Zakho .

The authorities also arrested other people when they planned to organize a ceremony for the fourth anniversary of the assassination of journalist Wadat Hussein in Duhok on August 13, and they were released later.
