Al-Sarraj said in a statement issued by the Council that achieving an effective ceasefire requires that Sirte and al-Jufrah regions become demilitarized, and the police forces from both sides agree on security arrangements within them.

Al-Sarraj also called for early presidential and parliamentary elections next March with the agreement of the Libyan parties.

In turn, the Libyan parliament headed by Aguila Saleh called on all parties to cease fire, given the economic and living conditions and the outbreak of the Corona virus in the country, and he made clear in a statement on Friday that "the ceasefire will remove the mercenaries, lead to the dismantling of militias, and stop foreign interference."

Aguila Saleh said: "All foreign mercenaries must be removed from Libya and external interference must be stopped."

Saleh disagreed with al-Sarraj, saying: "We did not touch on making Sirte a demilitarized zone."

He stressed that the Libyan National Army is committed to the ceasefire decision.

In addition, he expressed his hope that the ceasefire would transform Sirte into the headquarter for the new Presidential Council, provided that a security force from all regions would secure it in preparation for the unification of the state institutions, and that military arrangements would be completed according to the military negotiation path (5 + 5) under the auspices of the UN mission.

At the same time, the UN mission welcomed that important step, saying in a statement posted on its official Twitter account: "We strongly welcome the important agreement between the two statements of the Presidency Council and the House of Representatives aiming at a ceasefire and activating the political process in Libya."
