The Turkish media have been circulating news for days about a fire on the Turkish island of Imrali, where the leader, Abdullah Ocalan is held since he was arrested in February 1999.

"Ocalan is a global and social public opinion in the conscience of the world,"

The Palestinian political writer, Nasser Shabat said in an interview with Hawar News Agency.

"Ocalan fought for change, and paid the price for this struggle of building a society and a democratic political system, but this does not appeal to Turkey and other political regimes such as Israel."

" he still makes  a global and social public opinion in the consciences of the world and the Kurdish people. As they represent a constant revolutionary symbol who carries the cause of a people," He said.

" he is a symbolic in the national and revolutionary sense of the Kurdish society and the world powers. He is one of the great symbols in the face of the global capitalist system," Shabat said.

He stressed the need to pursue his oppressed cause: "It should be considered in the humanitarian sense, which is the essence of the Kurdish issue."

"Ocalan's freedom will increase the momentum of the revolutionary struggle,"

Shabat said, Turkey insists on isolating Ocalan: "Because his freedom worries Turkey in two ways: the Turkish regime realizes that Ocalan's release from prison means that the Left Movement will rise in the region and Turkey in particular. Ocalan has been able to strengthen the momentum of the Left in the Turkish political scene. This does not appeal to many, including Israel, Turkey and America, as Ocalan's symbolism as a leader will give the left in the region a great deal of momentum."

The second way, according to Shabat, is Oclan's release will revive the momentum of the revolutionary struggle in the region, as well as the left's activity worldwide.

"It represents a very large symbolic and revolutionary situation for the peoples of the region, its minorities and the world left," he said.

"Nothing justifies leaving Ocalan's cause and advocacy must be stepped up," Shabat said.

"There is an absence on the part of regional powers and organizations, most notably the left," Shabat said, adding that "the historic transformation the declining situation of the left in the world."

"This does not justify leaving Ocalan case, but rather, we need to adopt his cause, demand the removal of the isolation of Ocalan and work to free him from his imprisonment," he said.

He added: "The responsibility lies on the institutions of the civil society in the world. they have to pursue the case because it is primarily humanitarian and exceeds the international law and all norms."
