NATO: We have no plans to provide military support to Turkey in Idlib

A diplomatic source in NATO confirmed that the alliance has no plans to support Turkey militarily in Idlib against the forces of order and Russia.

"The killing of elements of the Turkish forces in Idlib, Syria, occurred during a unilateral military operation on foreign soil," Russian TASS news agency quoted a diplomatic source in NATO as saying.

The source pointed out that "NATO countries will not support Ankara in accordance with Article 5 regarding the killing of Turkish forces in Idlib in early February."

According to him, NATO "does not consider the possibility of providing Turkey with military assistance in the event of the latter launching a military operation in the region."

The diplomat emphasized that not all NATO members share Turkey's goals in Syria and Libya, and that the issue of providing military support to Turkey was not raised at a meeting of NATO defense ministers on February 12 and 13.

The relationship between the Syrian regime and Russia on the one hand, and Turkey on the other hand, has been tense, against the background of the regime launching an attack on Idlib and Aleppo countryside, during which Turkish soldiers had been killed.
