Brussels workshop elects committee to prepare for "Democratic Opposition Conference"

The Syrian Democratic Council, through the Brussels workshop, elected a 10-member preparatory committee to prepare for the Democratic Opposition Conference, provided that the preparatory committee selects a coordinator soon to determine the merits of the conference.

After finishing its meeting, the Brussels Workshop issued a statement to the public opinion, highlighting what was discussed in the workshop, and how to prepare for the "Democratic Opposition Conference".

The statement stated:

Under the slogan "Together to Build a Syrian Consensus," the Syrian Democratic Council completed the conferences and dialogue workshops that it held in the Syrian interior and in Europe by holding a Brussels workshop in order to form a preparatory committee for the Democratic Opposition Conference, where it aims to build a broad democratic assembly that participates in any political entitlements and national activities aimed at cutting tyranny in all its forms, symbols and foundations, and establishing a state of equality, justice and law.

To find a political representation of democratic forces, sees democracy as a modern humanitarian system, which requires the preparatory committee to invite all democrats, individuals and groups, bring them together and establish a common vision, and ensure that the democratic project is a national issue that requires unity of direction and unification of position and goal.

Calling the Democratic Opposition Conference to form a force that contributes to the political solution to Syria, and confronts extremism, militancy and secularism, and works to develop papers characterized by recognition, participation and non-exclusion, and consolidate democratic principles as equality between people, women and men, and considers man as a standard for all values, and affirms that religious and ethnic groups are equal in moral values, that their right to public participation requires interconnection with secularism, that the concept of democracy is inherent in the principles of power production, and that a democratic future requires the restoration of definitions and the establishment of a state of right and law.

Participants and attendees also agreed that the preparatory committee should choose a coordinator for it, and later meet to draw up an internal list of its work and mechanisms of its activity. It also specifies a time period to complete its tasks in developing the necessary documents and communicating with democratic forces and personalities, in addition to determining invitations and invitees, determining the location and time of the conference, mobilization, support and promotion, including regional and international visits and tours.

The preparatory committee has the right to seek the assistance of whom it deems appropriate. Participants in the Brussels meeting are considered reference to the preparatory committee.

Ten names were elected by secret ballot and voting as members of the preparatory committee, supplemented by seven people from the Syrian-Syrian dialogue conferences that took place in the Syrian interior.
