Yazidis of Afrin condemn Turkish attacks on Shengal, hold Iraq responsible

The Yazidi Union in Afrin region issued a statement read by the joint head of the Union in the presence of dozens of members of the Yazidi Union.

The statement reads as follows:

“ISIS, which has attacked brutality and we have never seen in history, committed the most horrible massacres against the armless people of shengal, slaved their women, and killed their men and children, and that is considered to be the 73^rd genocide against this people after 72 genocides committed at the hands of the Ottoman Empire against the Yazidi Kurds.

 After the elimination of ISIS terrorism at the hands of People Protection Units, Women Protection Units and the Syrian Democratic Forces, the  Democratic Autonomous Administration of Shengal was established, and Shengal Resistance Units were formed, which include the sons and daughters of the people to protect their areas and land after the inaction of Kurdistan Region’s government and the Iraqi central government  to protect them.

The establishment of the Autonomous Administration for Shengal's people didn’t go in favor of the fascist Turkish state, the ancestor of the Ottoman Empire and the owner of the genocides. Therefore, after the failure of its proxy, ISIS, to eliminate the Yazidi Kurds in Shengal, it goes out in the open to complete what ISIS couldn’t targeting the Yazidis in Afrin to Tel Tamr and al-Hasakah. It tries in many ways and with all its efforts to eliminate this people that is deeply sticking to the land of its ancestors. 

One crime of the Turkish occupation is using its drones in bombing the commander of the Resistance Units of Shengal  Zardasht Shengali and three of his comrades in Dakuri, north of Shengal, on Wednesday, 15-1-2020. This crime is another attempt to strike the Yazidi Kurdish identity, and to try to break the will of a people living on the land of their fathers and grandfathers. This crime is a continuation of efforts to erase the identity of an entire people, and the inaction of the Iraqi government indicates its partnership in this flagrant violation of international norms and laws.

Therefore, we call on the whole free world and centers of the international decision, especially the state of Iraq that recognizes Shengal Resistance Units to stand in the face of the Turkish state’s ambitions and its flagrant intervention in the will of the peoples, and to prevent it from committing these genocides and violations against people and fighters of Shengal.”

The statement ended with chanting slogans that glorify the martyrs.
