Vatican Foreign Minister receives delegation from SDC in Rome

The Vatican Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Archbishop “Paul Richard Gallagher,” received in Rome a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) to discuss the file of the Syrian crisis and the Turkish aggression on northern and eastern Syria, and its effects on the humanitarian situation.

The meeting took place in the Vatican between the delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council, which included both of the co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council “Riyad Derar” and the head of the Executive Body of the Council “Ilham Ahmed” on the one hand, and the Vatican Foreign Minister on the other hand. It dealt with the file of the humanitarian crisis caused by the Turkish aggression for the northern and eastern regions of Syria.

The delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council conveyed the depiction of the situation experienced by the peoples and components of the region under the Turkish occupation, the practices of the Turkish state; a change in the composition of the population area, and the genocide against the indigenous people of the region, as well as the suffering of the displaced from the people of northern and eastern Syria.

The bilateral meeting also discussed the path of the political process in Syria, and the prospects for comprehensive solutions and settlement, where the delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council touched on the need to involve the representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in the international efforts to end the Syrian crisis, whether in the Constitutional Committee or the Geneva meetings as necessary for the success of the solution path.

The delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council spoke to Mr. Gallagher about the experience of the Autonomous Administration and its model for protecting minorities by involving all components of the region in managing their affairs within the bodies and structures of the Autonomous Administration, in addition to talking about the mechanism of work of the Autonomous Administration and its democratic experience in Syria.

In turn, the Holy See official expressed his happiness and made promises to provide the necessary support to the demands of the delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council.
