Bosnia recovers a group of ISIS mercenaries, their families from N, E Syria

The Bosnian authorities announced that they had recovered 25 of their citizens who were fighting in the ranks of ISIS mercenaries and were residing in camps in northern and eastern Syria.

France Presse, quoting the authorities in Bosnia, said that a group of 25 Bosnians, including ISIS fighters, as well as a number of women and children, had been returned from camps in Syria.

In a statement, the Ministry of Security said that seven of the group were arrested upon their arrival because they fought with ISIS.

The ministry added that six women and 12 children were taken by plane to a medical examination reception center.

Prosecutors said in a statement that the group is under investigation for terrorism.

Earlier this month, Bosnian Security Minister Dragan Mectic said that the authorities were preparing to return a group of about twenty people from Syria.

The agency noted that about 300 Bosnians went to combat in Syria and Iraq between 2012 and 2016, according to official data, a quarter of them children.
