The Kongra Star, in coordination with the Newroz Cultural and Social Association, is organizing a series of meetings for the members of the Kurdish community in Lebanon, as part of the series of events on the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women.

On Sunday, a symposium was held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, where dozens of members of the Kurdish community in Lebanon participated.

Netewî Xemgîn in the Kongra Star, the administrative member in the Democratic Society Movement Şervîn Cûdî and the head of Newroz Cultural and Social Association Hanan Othman participated in the administrative symposium.

The symposium began with a minute of silence, and then the head of the Newroz Cultural and Social Association Hanan Othman delivered a speech, addressing the historical meanings of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women.

Hanan Othman said, “As women of northern and eastern Syria, we present all our activities on November 25 this year to our comrade, the co-chair of the Future Syria Party the martyr Hevrin Khalaf, who was killed by ISIS militants, as well as to our comrade Amara Renas; the fighter in ranks of the Women Protection Units (YPJ), who fought against ISIS, and the member of the Women Justice Council, the mother Aqida.”

Hanan Othman addressed the forms of violence practiced against women, particularly in the areas occupied by the Turkish occupation army and the mercenary groups in northern and eastern Syria.

She added in this context, “During the nine years of the revolution in northern and eastern Syria, ISIS was the major enemy of the peoples of the region, while the main supporter of ISIS is Erdogan's fascist dictatorship. The attacks launched on our lands on 9 October and the occupation it resulted in is violence against communities and against women.”

She pointed out that the Turkish occupation and mercenary groups followed systematic violence against society and against women in particular through the displacement of the population, demographic change, destruction of the environment and the practice of all forms of violations against human rights.

Hanan Othman stressed in the conclusion of her speech on the continuation of the struggle and resistance against the occupation and against all forms of violence, and called for women to stand beside each other and hold Erdogan’s regime the accountability for the crimes it committed against the peoples of the region.

The seminar ended by answering the participants' questions on the topic of the seminar.
