AL-SHAHBA

This comes as part of the occupation plan to follow the policy of the Turkifiacation in the region, after the occupation has settled nearly 2300 Turkmen families in the border area of Belbela in an attempt to establish a Turkmen belt.

This is not limited to Afrin, the same policy is taking place Azaz, Jarablus, al-Bab, and Mar'a, but it is happening more frequently in Afrin, which was occupied by Turkey on March 18, 2018,during the occupation attack on Afrin, the Turkish occupation destroyed 68 schools out of 318 in Afrin.

The people of Afrin who forcibly displaced from their homes to al-Shahba canton are suffering from all aspects of life, especially in terms of education and meeting their daily needs and school supplies, with little potential, the Education Committee of the Democratic Society provides the school supplies and renovates the schools for the students.

On the other hand, the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries turned schools in Afrin into military headquarters and places of torture for the indigenous Afrin residents. In addition to the chanting of Islamic slogans exactly like the slogans of ISIS instead of chants before students enter the classroom in the areas occupied by Turkey.

In this context, Hawar News Agency monitored the views of students and teachers of al-Shahba, a member of the training committee of the Democratic Society of Afrin Sebah Jernas confirmed the transformation of schools into places of torture.

Sebah said, "during our forced displacement to the al-Shahba, we have converted prisons and places of torture used by the mercenaries of Turkey and the Syrian regime, to schools to teach children to make them continue their studies."

In her speech, Jernas noted, "we are experiencing difficult conditions in al-Shahba, where the Syrian regime imposes a siege on the people, besides, the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries shell almost daily the villages and areas of al-Shahba canton."

Jernas concluded stressing that they refuse to resettle Turkmen families in the border villages of Afrin city and change their demography.

Alan Sheikho, a 12th-grade student, said they were being educated in semi-destructive places, used by mercenary factions to torture people.

"The Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries follow the Turkifiacation  policy in Afrin schools and consider the Turkish language as an official language in schools, we were created to learn in our language and not the language of another country," Sheikho added in the same context.

The student Haifa Hashim stressed that their forced departure from Afrin did not prevent them from learning in their mother tongue and follow-up study. Haifa considered the Turkish occupation aims to obliterate their identity and not to continue their learning in their mother tongue.
