Horrible crimes committed in Afrin by Turkish state during 37 days

Turkey is still ongoing of horrible crimes and with its plans to change the demographics of the occupied Afrin and to annex it in the future to the borders of the Turkish state. The list of such practices extends from the abductions and killings of the indigenous residents of Afrin and the burning of olive groves which is considered as their main source of livelihood. Not to mention eradicating the people of the region from their history by stealing monuments and destroying archaeological sites.

With the beginning of the Turkish attack on Afrin on January 20, 2018, the true Turkish intentions of the attack unfolded.

Turkey's targeting of archaeological sites, populated villages, places of worship and medical points in Afrin was a tactic followed by Turkey as part of a strategy centered on eliminating the Kurds and their democratic project in Syria, and wants to annex Afrin city to to the borders of the Turkish state after the completion of the task of emptying Afrin from the Kurds fully and the settlement of the families of mercenaries and Turkmen loyal to Turkey in the occupied canton.

Turkish tactics within the strategy of eliminating the Kurds

ANHA documented the kidnappings and killings of civilians between August and early September.

Afrin villages' districts have been still exposed to kidnap of the civilians since one month and seven days, where 130 civilians were abducted. 21 civilians kidnapped in Mobata district, 13 civilians kidnapped in Bulbul district, 7 civilians kidnapped from Shia district, 33 civilians kidnapped from Shara, 8 civilians kidnapped from Rajo district, 16 civilians amomg them women kidnapped in Janders, and from the center of the city of Afrin and the surrounding villages 30 civilians.

The fate of those who were kidnapped remains unknown.

In the same period, three civilians were killed, including an elderly woman, one from Sherawa and one from Shia.

Fighting indigenous people in their livelihood

The crimes committed by the Turkish state are not limited to kidnappings and killings, but also an economic war against the indigenous population.

Turkey burns the olive groves and thus robs the only source of livelihood for the indigenous population, in other words, forcing them to flee from the canton after their livelihoods have disappeared or to remain in the face of the hunger imposed by the occupation.

Between the beginning of August and the first week of September, the Turkish occupation mercenaries cut down 300 forest trees in Mobata district and other trees in the village of Ruta, which belongs to the district of Shia.

Since Turkey and its mercenaries occupied the canton of Afrin on 18 March last year, the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries have burned more than 15,000 hectares of olive trees, forests trees.

Imposing large amounts of money on the residents in order to force them to leave Afrin

Large sums of money have been imposed on the people according to numerical sequence of the houses, In the villages of Qazilbash and Beileh in Bulbul district, families were forced to pay $ 200.

The lands that indigenous peoples have maintained by sweating their forehead for decades have not been spared from mercenary practices. On August 10, the mercenaries of Sultan Suleiman Shah (Amshat) issued a decree forcing landowners and other real estate to pay a fine of $ 1,000.

Turkey's efforts to uproot Afrin from its historical roots

In a related context, the Turkish occupation continues to steal the monuments of the canton of Afrin and the destruction of archaeological sites.

The Turkish occupation excavated and bulldozed the soil in the hill between the villages of Bebaka, Qusha and Sharqah belonging to Bulbul district in search of antiquities using heavy machinery of Bulldozer and uprooted hundreds of olive trees.

The archaeological hill of Jarnas, located in the village of Sinara in the Shia district, and the hill of Alakah village in Shara were excavated.
