Russian Foreign Ministry: Areas of reducing escalation are temporary measure will not be recognized by anyone

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the so-called areas of reducing the escalation is a temporary measure and will not be recognized by anyone, and said it will not allow the existence of "protectorates of terrorism" in Syria.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin told Russian media Friday that "Idlib is the last working area among the four reducing escalation areas created in 2017."

He added, "From the very beginning in all of our agreements on areas of escalation, we wrote the main thing - that this is a temporary measure, and that means that no one will recognize this region forever."

He stressed that they would not allow "the existence of hateful sanctuaries in Syria, which also means that we, including the Russian president, have said frankly that terrorism must be eliminated sooner or later."

It is noteworthy that Russia has stepped up its tone against Turkey recently and accused it of not implementing its obligations regarding the situation in Idlib, Jabhat al-Nusra controls 70% of its territory and the presence of the so-called Turkish control points to protect Jabhat al-Nusra in Idlib.
