5 km2 ... IS dream to stay in the quagmire of death

The ordeal that befell North Syria's people is imminent to come to an end which was started from Kobani, where the first triumph was achieved against the largest terrorist organization where many world states had neglected to fight IS, but with the determination of North Syria's people, Kobani's victory was the beginning to defeat IS.

After liberating many of the strategic areas that were taken by IS mercenaries, as al-Raqqa city which was taken as the alleged caliphate’s capital " Islamic State in Iraq and Sham" in al-Tabqa city, and Manbij, and to liberate those cities, SDF also provided several martyrs like what had happened in legend of Kobani, and now IS is nearing of total defeat in small spot in the eastern countryside of the city of Deir-ez-Zor.

The liberation of north and east of Syria from IS grip nears

During the last battle of Al-Jazeera Tempest campaign which was launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces on September 9, 2017 to liberate the eastern countryside of the city of Deir-ez-Zor, the Syrian Democratic Forces announced on September 11, 2018, "the Battle to defeat terrorism" to liberate what is remaining to IS in the last pocket in Hajin, al-Sosa, al-Shafa, al-Baguz al-Foqani."

The Battle to defeat terrorism launched with the participation of all the factions affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces and in the form of axes, which is Hajin axis has the competence to fight IS in Hajin town and the axis of al-Sousa to fight IS in the same axes and now strong clashes are erupting there to eradicate IS in al-Marashda village, which is located south of al-Sousa village on the bank the Euphrates River, where it was crowned by its liberation, while less than 5 km2 remained in al-Baguz axis to announce the liberation of the eastern countryside entirely from IS.

What happens in the last 5 km2?

According to the information reported by one of the military commanders of the Syrian Democratic Forces that IS used civilians as human shields to obstacle progress of their fighters, and these civilians are mostly IS mercenary families, and others are people of those areas. The second way to block the movement of the fighters is changeable climate conditions where the heavy fog obscures the vision, and therefore the fighters are slow in the liberation because they take the safety of civilians in that small spot as a priority of them.

The spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mustapha Bali, noted that IS asked them to leave that spot and go through a safe passage to Turkey or the city of Idlib, which is controlled by Jabhit al-Nusra (Heyat Tahrir al-Sham), pointing out that their request was rejected by the General Command of SDF, and asked them to surrender or die in those burrows.
