Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement's headquarters in South Kurdistan closed

The co-chair of Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement Şîlan Şakir said that the Kurdistan Region Government has closed the headquarters of the Movement in the cities Kelar and Koyê while the Asayîş Forces are trying to close the headquarters of the Movement in the city of Sulaimaniyah.

On Tuesday evening, Asayîş Forces of al-Sulaymaniyah city in South Kurdistan encircled Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement's headquarters in al-Sulaimaniyah city. The Asayîş Forces demanded the closure of the Movement's headquarters under the pretext of not obtaining permits.

In a statement to Hawar news agency (ANHA), the co-chair of Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement Şîlan Şakir said that the Asayîş Forces gave the Movement's officials a deadline until today to close the Movement's headquarters in the city of Sulaimaniyah.

'Meetings with the National Union have not resulted in any result'

Şîlan Şakir said that they met on Wednesday morning with officials of the Kurdistan National Union, but the meetings have not achieved any results regarding the decision of closing the headquarters of the party. She said that the government of the Region insists on its decision and says, "The headquarters would be closed even if we have to resort to violence." We would use our democratic rights and organize events against the decision of the Region Government. We will resist with all our strength in order to stop this decision.

She added that the Region's government has not yet reversed its decision, and that they are currently existed in the headquarters of the Movement in the city of Sulaimaniyah, waiting for the arrival of Asayîş Forces. She also confirmed that the government of the Region closed the headquarters of the Movement in each of the cities of Kelar and Koyê. While a number of the people were gathering from the city of al-Sulaimaniyah in front of the headquarters of Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement.

She appealed at the end of her statement to the Kurdish people in South Kurdistan to confront the decision of Kurdistan Region Government and the assembly in front of the headquarters of the movement to prevent the implementation of the decision to close the headquarters of the Movement.
