MSD listened to residents’ demands in newly-liberated eastern Deir ez-Zor

Today, the co-chair of MSD Riyad al-Derrar held a meeting in al-Soor town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, attended by dozens of elders and dignitaries of the Arab tribes in the region. The meeting highlighted the reality of the service experienced by the liberated region of IS recently.

During the meeting, Riyad al-Derrar spoke, noting the need to listen to the demands of the general public, after years of darkness imposed by IS mercenaries in the region.

Al-Derrar stressed the importance of self-reliance in the first place, without relying on external sources. "We will advance if we rely on ourselves."

Al-Derrar listened to the demands of the elders and dignitaries. The demands included a number of service issues that the region suffers from, such as repairing the infrastructure of the region and stabilizing the security situation.

The demands also included reforming schools, improving the educational situation, rehabilitating and putting pumps on the Khabour River to irrigate crops. The attendees also requested that the council ensure that electricity is distributed through generators and that the prices of amperes are lowered, the attendants requested that clean water be provided to the area.

In addition, the attendees demanded job opportunities for women in the region, given the almost total lack of opportunities, as well as organizing aid distribution committees for those without identity cards.

Riyad al-Derrar said that the organizations considered the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor a burning front, and that this is why they did not come to it so far and added "For those who do not have identification papers, we will appoint a committee in each area to register the names."
