Battle to defeat terrorism dealt IS harsh blows, advances in several axes

On Thursday, all axes and fronts in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnessed fierce battles between the fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and IS mercenaries within the battle to defeat terrorism, amid IS’ attempts to take advantage of the bad weather and launch attacks on SDF’ points, but the latter confronted the mercenaries and dealt them painful blows. Moreover, they advanced in several axes.

The media center of SDF issued a statement revealing the results of the battle to defeat terrorism within the past 24 hours. The statement included,

1 - Baguz axis: The axis witnessed violent clashes between our fighters and elements of the terrorist gang as heavy movements of the terrorists were observed in the frontal points of the front. Our fighters targeted them with all strength, and the terrorists responded by bombing our sites with mortars, but there were no casualties among our fighters.

Intermittent clashes resumed with mutual bombardment with mortars.

The International Alliance’s aircraft also carried out several air strikes targeting the terrorists’ positions.

In the early hours of the morning, our fighters advanced 3 km in the result of clashes erupted with the terrorists, killing a number of them. They also managed to install 17 new points. The engineering teams managed to detonate 4 mines planted by the terrorists.

As the combat operations’ zones were exposed to a dusty and dense sandstorm, the terrorist gang tried to exploit the bad weather and the concealment of the vision to launch counter-attacks on our forces and on all the points that had been fixed, but our fighters foiled all the attacks after clashes that are considered the fiercest since the beginning of the battle. The confrontations took place at very close distances, and resulted in killing dozens of terrorists while the others fled amid heavy artillery and missile shelling by the International Coalition Forces.

2 - Hejin axis: After strong clashes in this axis, our fighters progressed 1 km and managed to install 20 points after killing a number of terrorists. They also cut off all the roads and trenches that could be used by terrorists to launch counter-attacks on the points of our forces.

The IS terrorist gang launched a counter-attack on our fighters' points, taking advantage of the bad weather due to the sandstorm witnessed in the area, but our fighters foiled all the attacks and turned the terrorists back.

3 – Al-Soseh axis: The streets and neighborhoods of al-Soseh town witnessed the most violent clashes at all between our forces and IS terrorists amid difficult weather conditions as there is an air storm sand that could obscure the vision, and the terrorists attempted to exploit that to launch counter-attacks as our fighters repelled them and turned them back. The intermittent clashes were ongoing in the town till afternoon.

4 – Al-Behra axis: The terrorist gang launched a violent attack on the positions of our forces, and violent clashes erupted between our fighters and elements of IS in the light of the weather conditions. During the attack, a number of terrorists were killed, while the artillery of the International Coalition were intensively bombing the terrorists’ sites. The International Air Force also blasted two booby-trapped vehicles that the terrorists had prepared to detonate among our fighters. The aircraft also destroyed another vehicle loaded by a Dushka and a bulldozer was destroyed.

5- The clashes’ outcome:

The number of the killed within the terrorists: 38 terrorists.

The raids of the International Coalition’s aircrafts: 12 raids.

 The missile strikes of the Coalition: 33 missiles of Hummer kind.

The terrorists’ losses: 11 IS’ sites among them the command’s headquarters, a mortar cannon, 2 booby-trapped vehicles, Dushka’s vehicle and a bulldozer were destroyed.

The mines that were blasted: 4 mines.

The points set up: 37 points.
