TURKI ALKALET / GIRÊ SPî

The number of the displaced persons in Ain Issa camp reached its peak during the battle of liberating al-Raqqa city from IS mercenaries. The camp administration managed to secure the needs of displaced people, but their numbers were reduced by half after the liberation of the city and the return of the population.

More than 13,000 displaced people and refugees still live in the camp, and this number has not diminished for months, despite the return of many families to their homes, so why?

Autonomous administration in Girê Spî district established Ain Issa camp in November 2016 to receive the displaced from al-Raqqa city and its countryside. The number of displaced persons during the declaration of SDF of the battle for the liberation of the city reached to 29,000.

The camp's administration in cooperation with some organizations, managed to provide assistance to the displaced.

The Civil Administration Council received the autonomous administration of the camp after it was established on the 18th April, 2017, to carry out its duties towards the displaced, and with the announcement of the military forces to liberate the city, its civil council started removing the rubble, mines and remnants of war in preparation for the return of the displaced, so their number decreased until it reached to 13,000 displaced persons with the beginning of 2018.

In addition to the displaced from al-Raqqa city, the camp is inhabited by displaced persons from Deir ez-Zor city, some others from Syrian cities fleeing of the regime's forces and refugees from Iraq.

The Ain Issa camp administration, in cooperation with some organizations, provides the displaced people with assistance, transit facilities and other needs according to the available resources.

The administrator of Ain Issa camp Jalal al-Ayiaf camp attributed the steady number of displaced persons in the camp to the entry of displaced families who were living in rural schools to the camp, in parallel with the departure of other families.

Al-Ayiaf attributed the remaining of a large number of the people of al-Raqqa to the destruction of their homes during the liberation battles, and the people of Deir ez-Zor for fear of the oppression of the regime that controls their areas, according to them.

The camp is currently inhabited by about 13,000 displaced persons, the majority of which are from Deir ez-Zor, 8073, and the rest are from al-Raqqa, 3115, Aleppo, 1056, Idlib 48, Hama 64, Homs 162, Iraq 518 refugees.
