Russia's envoy to Syria: Iranian forces moved 85 km away from Israeli border

The Russian news agency of TASS quoted from the Russia's special envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentyev saying on Wednesday that the Iranian forces have withdrawn their heavy weapons to a distance of 85 kilometers away from the border between Israel and Syria on the Jolan Height.

The agency noted that Alexander Lavrentyev said, "The Iranians and the Shiite formations are not there," but at the same time, he noted that Iranian soldiers that he described as advisers may be among the forces of the regime which are still closer to the Israeli border.

Alexander Lavrentyev added, "But there are no units of equipment and heavy weapons that could pose a threat to Israel within 85 kilometers of the demarcation line."

The regime's forces have recently taken control of large areas of southern Syria with the support of the Iranian forces, Hezbollah and Russia making it close to the Israeli border.

The removal of the Iranian forces from the Israeli border, in response to Israel's long-standing demand, calls on the Russian government to ensure the Iranian complete withdrawal from Syria.

On Tuesday, Russia's ambassador to Tel Aviv Anatoly Viktorov said that Moscow could not force the Iranian troops to leave Syria, and it could not also prevent Israel from launching air strikes on the Iranian forces in Syria.

Anatoly Viktorov pointed out that the Russian side has coordinated this plan with the Israeli side.
