Second largest wheat mill out of service as result of Turkish attacks
The second largest mill in the Amuda district of Jazera Canton is out of service as a result of the Turkish bombing, which will affect bread production for at least a month.
On January 14, Turkish occupation army warplanes bombed Al-Khairat Mill, south of Amuda district in Jazera Canton, and It is the second largest mill in the district and covers the flour needs of Jazera Canton and parts of Deir ez-Zor Canton, after Hatten Mill.
Abdullah Derbas, owner of the mill that was built in 2014, explained: “The Turkish occupation aims to worsen the situation of the citizens of NE Syria by bombing vital and service facilities.”
Al-Khairat Mill produced more than 50 tons of flour daily, and was a source of livelihood for more than 20 families, the majority of whom were from Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, and Hasaka. Derbas explained that the damage caused by the Turkish bombing on the mill is estimated at approximately 750 million Syrian pounds, equivalent to 50,000 US dollars.
Abdullah Derbas confirmed that: “The mill will stop working for a period of no less than a month, to work on its rehabilitation, if spare parts are available. Its cessation of work will lead to a shortage of flour, which in turn will affect bread production.”
Last Sunday, January 14, the Turkish occupation army targeted Al-Khairat Mill in Amuda, wounding two mill workers, Hussein Ayesh Hussein (45 years old), displaced from Hasaka, and Muhammad Khair Ahmed Sheikhi (23 years old) from Aleppo.
