Washington to send air defense systems to Iraq to confront Iran

The commander of the US Central Command said on Tuesday that the United States is sending air defense systems to Iraq to protect the American soldiers in the event of any Iranian attack.

The General Kenneth McKinsey, the commander of the Central Command said in a session of Armed Forces Committee in the House: "We are also sending air defense and anti-ballistic missile defense systems to Iraq in particular to protect ourselves from any other possible Iranian attack."

The Pentagon has said it is seeking permission from Iraq to transfer Patriot missile defense systems there to bolster defense of US forces after an Iranian missile attack on January 8.

In mid-February, the US Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced that the Coalition Forces against ISIS and NATO will coordinate together about the continuation of fight against ISIS."
