Washington alerts Turkey before today's meeting: We are looking for support in Idlib

The US special envoy to Syria, James Jeffrey, expressed his country's concern about Ankara's purchase of the Russian "S-400" system at a time when Washington is searching for support for Turkey in Idlib, before the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Speaking from Istanbul, Jeffrey added that the United States had already offered humanitarian aid, and that it was sharing information with Turkey and put pressure on European allies to make a significant contribution.

The US envoy said that Washington is pressing the Europeans to contribute to reaching a good agreement regarding Syria.

This American alert to Turkey comes hours before the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

US officials had earlier warned Turkey that Russia was not a "reliable" partner in the long run.
